On Saturday, April 21, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. at Newark United Methodist Church on Main Street in Newark, the New Ark Chorale, under the direction of Dr. Michael Larkin, will take a musical journey through the animal kingdom in a creative and fascinating choral program, “All Creatures Great and Small.” More than fifty animals will be mentioned musically in a variety of styles ranging from choral masterpieces of the Renaissance and Baroque periods to a medley of novelty songs such as “How Much is that Doggie in the Window” and “Puff the Magic Dragon.”
The concert program will be anchored by a suite of compositions by the Welsh composer Ivor Davies, Prayers from the Ark, entertaining and thoughtful settings of poetry by Carmen Bernos de Gasztold, written from the point of view of several animals on Noah’s ark. In addition, the Chorale will sing Animal Crackers, humorous settings of Ogden Nash’s poetry by the contemporary American composer, Eric Whitacre, and settings of William Blake’s “The Lamb” and “The Tyger” by music director Michael Larkin.
The concert promises to be a unique and entertaining choral experience as we partner with Paws for People to help promote their mission to train and schedule therapy dogs in the Delaware Valley area.
Tickets are $15.00, $12.00 for Seniors, $5.00 for Students and are available at the door or by calling 302-368-4946. You can also purchase tickets online by visiting the New Ark Chorale website at http://www.newarkchorale.org/ . We Hope to see you there!
