Advanced Training
In our effort to enhance the value of pet therapy within our community, PAWS requires all members who have been with the organization for six months or more to complete Advanced Training.
What is Advanced Training?
This is a higher-level training session for PAWS members that includes pertinent information on the development of PAWS and pet therapy on our community. We review key details from basic training and delve deeper into who we are and why pet therapy is important.
What topics are covered?
- PAWS Basics
- Listening Skills
- PAWS Culture
- PAWS in the Community
- Customer Service & Visibility
- Small group sessions to talk about techniques/tricks
When does the training take place?
Sessions are offered several times a year. Invitations are sent via email.
Where do the trainings take place?
Information about training locations are sent via email to eligible teams. Locations and times vary.
Is this mandatory?
PAWS requires any team that has been a member for six months or more to complete Advanced Training at some point (sooner rather than later!). If you cannot make a specific date, let us know and we can work with you to meet this requirement.
Is there a fee?
No, Advanced Training is a benefit for PAWS members.
Can I complete STEX recertification at Advanced Training?
We do not do STEX recertification at Advanced Training – this is an informative class for you.
Can I bring my therapy companion to this training?
Of course! All therapy companions are invited. However, please keep in mind that this is a four-hour class. If your pet becomes restless after a while, it may be a better option to let them stay home and get some well-deserved rest.
